I've always had a pair in the closet, and grew up stomping around with folks in them. My parents wore them when working in the yard, and when they rarely went bird hunting. This is something that should probably sway my obsession, but it never has.
I don't wear them often because the hybrid pair that I have are a real investment to get on and off of my feet. Thus leaving their wear for days that invovle mud and water, and at least a few hours of wear. These shoes don't just slip on.
Last week at Trader Joe's Singer and I had just checked out, our buggy was loaded and ready to go. As I turned with her in hand I saw the most glorious boots ever. She was dressed perfectly for a cold fall day. Leggings, comfy sweater, and duck boots. Duck hybrids also, but not like my own. Duck boots and Uggs had a baby. But not the clunky side of Uggs, the fuzzy inside. Sounds tacky right? Well, that's subjective.
I almost chased her, but the gentleman helping me with the buggy was ready to head to the wagon so I followed thinking the whole time I was making a huge fashion mistake. A week later I still wish I would have asked him to wait for just one second so I could awkwardly chase the cute boot girl up the produce isle with my baby in hand to find out who made her boots.
I've searched Pinterest. Google. Polyvore. Newflash: They're in this year. JCrew said they were a go in 2009. Gucci is even doing them for men this year.
I didn't find the boots my unnamed fashion muse had on, but I found a few to marinate on. Meet the "new-old" wellies, ladies:
Uggs Belcloud $275.00 Zappos
Tretorn Aspelin Rain Boot $134.95 Nordstrom
Photo and look by Cardigan NYC
Photo and look by Jcrew 2009
Photo and look by Matchbook Magazine
I'll leave you with my favorite, they might just change your mind:
Of course they're by Free People, and of course, they're the most expensive at $448.00
Would you rock the duck boots?

Would totally rock the duck boots, if mine hadn't been destroyed a few years ago. And since it rains about 4.6x year here, I just can't justify replacing them. But, PLEASE! ROCK THE DUCKS!!
ReplyDeleteI love the quilted ones from the apple picture. I live for a rainy day on campus- everyone skips so it's easier to park, and I get to wear my knee high bright yellow Hunter wellingtons. It's amazing how much people will compliment someone on functional footwear.
ReplyDeleteAh-ha! Yes functional footwear! I agree. Last week I bought four pairs of shoes. Two Toms, One sexy heel, and one comfy sweater house shoe/boot. David doesn't know yet... but two should be arriving today. It's already 4:45 and UPS isn't here yet... but they always run late by our home. I just hope UPS doesn't arrive at the same time my husband does. If time works to my advantage I can place them in the closet, get rid of the evidence and wear the four new pairs over the next month, but graciously waiting at least two weeks so when D comments on them I can say: Oh these old things? I've had them forever... you never notice ANY thing. ;) How functional of me. ;)
ReplyDeleteI got a new pair for Christmas last year… My first pair were stolen while at boarding school in Virginia (girls are mean!) My new pair are the shearling lined ones. They are FANTASTIC!!!
