WeekEnd Review: Door Jams, Late Night Jams, Singer uh, jams?

We just wrapped up another weekend surrounded by those who support us- we seem to have a lot of those in our life, and we are thankful.

Thursday we worked on swapping doors, we attempted a fruit basket turnover for the garage and front door. We've been looking for a replacement for our windowless front door since we moved in, stopping by the Habitat Restore or Southern Surplus when we get a hankering for it. We are in search of a replacement with windows, because the corner with the door in our living room is too dark. It needs some natural light.

After measuring my choices at Habitat last week I realized that they were all short of my goal, so I headed home with my finds. When I walked in the garage door it hit me, why in the world haven't we just swapped the two around? We lived here two years and it took me that long to think of this freebie? I've always gotten a little grumpy when I think about guest convening in our kitchen, and having a pretty little door/window to look through and gaze out at our... garage.

I wanted to shut it off, but somehow the ingenious idea never occurred to me, my husband was in agreement. So he got out his tools, made the remark that it would be hard to fit, because houses settle and we he got to work. It didn't fit. He's right more than I let on.

Well, the glass door didn't fit where the solid one once stood. Although the solid door fit like a glove in its replacement spot, lookin' all perfect in our kitchen and keeping our imperfect garage out of sight.

David went to Lowes after consulting our builder friend, who said to get 4 inch screws and, uh... torque? them as tightly as possibly into the door jam. Thus bringing the door to a more precise 90 degree angle, hoping that this would make room for an easy open and shut case. It didn't work. But I snapped a few pictures anyhow, so I can dream about letting more light into the living room one day....

He's so handsome and fixity. See all the paint supplies to the side? I owe ya a post about that too.

The switch really made a difference, too bad it didn't work out. We are still thinking about making the switch- we just need to get a builder in who knows a little more about home repair (and door jambs) than we do.

Let there be light

To get an idea of what the corner looked like before the swap, and right when we moved in and starting make the upgrades to this old house, here's a view:

I think we've come a long way, although we still have some road ahead of us.

Here's a shot with the temporary stand in outside, it would have looked great red:

Back to the drawing board..

A few more from the last few days. David threw a party for his employees, to thank them for working so hard. It was good times. I didn't get the camera out until late night. He played a super secret show for Craig, the dogs, and me. I love it when his guitar comes out.

Sweet Singer turned 5 months young this weekend. No family shoot yet, we had to cancel, but I took a few myself:
