I was walking around the property with David one day after we had signed on our new home and we bumped into a tree with quarter sized fruit on it. David proclaimed "it's a persimmon tree!". I recalled that he had grown up with one in his yard as a child. I really couldn't believe it the luck! Our very own persimmon tree, to do with it... whatever it is you do with persimmons.
Now skip back about a year ago when I was I was trying to come up with a name for my blog, I knew I wanted it to be catchy and Southern. So I typed the word Huckleberry in the Google search bar and started browsing around for a phrase with that word, or maybe just another word that sounded nice with it. That's when I found "I'm a huckleberry over your persimmon" which means I'm better than you. I kept searching and found "A huckleberry over my persimmon" which means a bit above my reach or abilities. In the coming months with the new house I think that phrase will perfectly fit this blog and I think I'll try all my projects anyway, even some persimmon recipes -which leave me scratching my head.
Cute post, JMB!
